Our Kindergarten's

Program

St Peter’s Kindergarten teaching and learning program supports the development of each child as an individual. By offering experiences where children can achieve success both independently, and by working collaboratively with their peers in small and large groups, children learn to recognise their own strengths and experience the benefits of shared learning. Qualified teachers plan experiences for children which support discovery and exploration, with a blend of intentional teaching and self-guided learning.

Early Years Learning Framework

Using the Early Years Learning Framework as a guide, we introduce concepts to children and scaffold learning based on their own interests. We have a strong focus on developing a positive sense of self, through development of positive relationships. Skills for lifelong learning such as inquiry, curiosity, confidence, creativity, imagination and shared thinking are fostered through a range of experiences. These broadly include literacy and numeracy, culture and language, creative and visual arts, role play, construction, sensory and nature play.

Learning in nature

Our Bayside location means we can incorporate a unique Beach Kinder program (in the 4YO group) in which children can explore, discover and learn in and around the beach area. This diverse landscape provides an opportunity for children to connect with the natural world, appreciating and marveling at its beauty, each week making new discoveries and observing changes in the natural world. The physical benefits of this program support the children to develop skills such as balance, strength and endurance by navigating different surfaces and spaces.

Community Engagement

Teachers plan experiences throughout the year for children to engage with the community through the Out & About program, in which we visit local schools, parks and shops. Planned excursions and educational visits provide broader experiences beyond the kinder gate. Likewise, we engage in community outreach programs, supporting Indigenous communities, local family support groups and organisations, to support development of the whole self.
